Short exchange Denmark. Learing trough the senses!

Mojn Belgium,

My first journey began in Denmark, Haderslev!
Exciting and very intriguing! We left in Zaventem on Sunday, March 27, 2011. Hopefully we will arrive at Frankfurt. We were lucky because we came right on time. After a waiting time of 3 hours in the transfer we could take our plane. We were lucky that we saw just in time that our flight gate was changed. No problem because we found it! After an hour flight and a nice healthy wrap later we arrived in Billund!

The beginning of an adventure: the bus, because here they have no street lights and the bikers cycling the  just down the road. Arrived at the hostel we went to sleep because it is going to be a exhausting day thereafter. I will briefly summarize what we have all seen or it will take too long.

The first thing that is really really weird, the keyboard ... I'll show you. qwertyuiopåasdfghjklæøzxcvbnm. Weird eh? But there's live with that ..

Another major difference is that you see almost no students at the Universitie college. In Belgium everywhere you see you see students, here it is not like that. Not all lessons are also start at 8.30 but always at a different time ..

The first day was to get to know each other! And we got a tour by Haderslev (café, bar,...) then we went out for the first evening / night. What really surprised me was that the bars close at 12pm. It wasn´t a probleæ because some of us had already enough.

We have had our first lesson of  Danish.

Mojn: Hi, Hej, ...
rødgrød med fløde: red porridge with cream.
Jeg hedder Nele: My name is Nele
Jeg kommer fra Belgien: I am a Belgian
....

Tuesday we did the workshop Art. it was really great, we were dressed up and face painting and take pictures. The result was great! (I'll have shiow you a picture)

Then we got half hour break at 11.30 it was really weird because it was for lunch.

Then how we had to make a portfolio or in our case a BLOG. and tata tata tata ....

The last thing fr this day is preparing food  typical of our country we had: "Verloren brood"... mmhh

on Wednesday we went to a typically-Danish school. The students say the first name of the teacher, walking in their socks, interrupt him / her ... totally different from belgium. But very nice to see I
was impressed. Then they went to Aarhus (Århus): an old town and a beautiful museum.

This is the first part of the week!

Tak and Mojn!

Nela (they can not really pronounce my name)

Indeed Bram better late than never.. Because it is to much work to tell you everything about the rest of the week there here a short movie about it.

Lesson 3: Logos VS. Mythos

What is Logos?
What is Mythos?

Well is looked it up on the internet.. This is what I found:

Mythos is a Greek word meaning "story, legend, plot" and may refer to:
Logos (pronounced /ˈloʊɡɒs/, /ˈlɒɡɒs/ (UK), or /ˈloʊɡoʊs/ (US); Greek λόγος logos) is an important term in philosophy, psychology, rhetoric and religion. Originally a word meaning "word," "speech," "account," or "reason,"[1][2] it became a technical term in philosophy, beginning with Heraclitus (ca. 535–475 BC), who used the term for the principle of order and knowledge. (Wikipedia)

As you can see it has a lot of definitions. I see it this way: Logos: Logic, we think everything true, we whant to prove that God exists. Belgium is a good exemple.
Mythos: Things without a reason, we don't thinks about it. We don't think it trough.

Water is H2O, but this don't give u some information about where, how, when. You know that it is water but more? You see people but do you know what is underneath?

The Pakistani people borrowed our Logos we have one place: Vaticaan, one person decides for us. (about faith)
They want a Vaticaan so they made Mekka. Another example is the Koran, long ago, he read a different way but now not anymore.

The east took over our Logos. I think we could say that we have a good Logos where we should be proud of. they also where jens now en want everything we have. THEY WANT TO BE LOGOS!

I think we have a good logos, but I also think that we think too much and especially to ourselves. Too bad because we have so many different people in this world. In the movie we saw she said: "We are all different in the world. It is not so much about people learning, as learning from themself. Because god would whant this."

I think this is a lot to think about...

PS: Only 10 days and I go to Denmark! Then this stuff will certainly go true my mind!

Lesson 2: E.T. Hall and high and low context cultures

Before I start to give my vision about high and low context, I will shortly tell you what it is.
High context: Less verbally explicit communication, less written/formal information. Knowledge is situational, relational. More like habits. This kind of context you will find in the east of the world.
Low context: Rule oriented, people play by external rules. More knowledge is codified, public, external and accessible. more interporsonal connection of shorter duration. task-centred. decisions and activities focus around what needs to be done, division of responisbilities. This kind of context you will find in the western cultures.

We live in a Low context country because in everything we do we follow rules. The law, school regulations, trafic rules. For everything we do we have them. Handy, because whitout it we would be lost. We would al do our thing but without thinking about the consequences. But at the same point we also are at High context. If somebody is sick we will go and visited of we will help them. No ware this rules is writen we just do it. So that is an example of  our country.
